Boudoir Photo Shoot: Questions and Answers

So, boudoir shoots. You, like, get naked and they point a giant light at you and a whole team takes your picture while you shiver there? Nope. It’s small and intimate and easy going, you dance to your favorite song in your jammies if you want to, and you get kick ass images back! Keep for yourself to look at what an awesome goddess you are, or make a sensual, naughty gift for Valentine’s Day or an anniversary for your significant other. I know it can feel weird and different and like such a huge step outside your comfort zone. So here are some questions I hear often, answered for you!

Q: Ummm, how do you pronounce ‘boudoir”?

A: Haha, yep, more often than not people have no idea how to say it! And it’s totally normal – it’s a french word for a lady’s private sitting room, and it’s /ˈbdwɑːr/. Not that hard! It’s been adopted in recent years in the world of photography to describe a type of session, think of it like a private look into a woman’s bedroom as she lounges around, looking gorgeous and sexy wearing anything from sweats through lingerie to cozily wrapped up in a simple white sheet.

Q: I worry that my images will end up online, and I’m not ready for that. Do I have to share them?

A: Your images are kept 100% private. It’s just me and you at your shoot, and your proofing gallery and finals are password protected. If you choose to, you can share all or some of your images with my viewers. Any image you see here has explicit approval from the person in it that it can be shared online.

Q: Will you edit my skin? I have some imperfections here and there.

A: Don’t worry about it, we are all imperfect! We bump into things, and get that-time-of-the-month break outs and the tank-top tan line. Before we start we’ll talk about editing to ensure it’s done at your comfort level and everything is polished so your beauty shines without the tiny marks of our daily lives.

Q:  Ugh, I don’t love my body. There is cellulite and bumps and pouches and look at these huge ankles! I worry I’ll never look as good as all these other ladies!

A: Ummm, yeah, no one does. We are all perfectly imperfect, if you’ll excuse the corny, but true line. Some careful posing (which I’ll show you!), masterful lighting, good wardrobe choices and you’ll see how the “Instagram Perfect” magic happens. Don’t wait to loose those 10 lbs, I’ve been working on that for 10 years now and still haven’t! Don’t put your life on hold, comparing yourself to others. Buy the shoes, book the shoot and let’s pose those curves together.

Q: What about hair and makeup?

A: You are welcome to book the Make Me Over package and all that fun stuff will be taken care of for you so you look like a bombshell. And if you a master of the eyebrow on fleek, you can skip it! I’ve designed the package to be separate from the regular session cost so it’s flexible and can work for any needs.

Q: Where does the shoot take place? Do I have to sneak into a hotel room?

A: Boudoir photos are done at my private home studio. We have a huge studio room and a separate dressing room for getting ready so it’s super easy, cozy and most importantly, private! I also shoot boudoir year-round so you can easily pick a date, rather than have to wait for a special once every few months.

Q: Can I bring a friend with me?

A: Please feel free to! If it makes you more comfortable, grab a bestie or your significant other and they’ll be happy to confirm I am in fact, not a an axe murderer. Jokes aside, I know this can feel super weird and totally understand if you’d like to have some moral support. Once we start shooting we will leave your companion in the dressing room to ensure you get the full experience of your shoot. Most people tend to get distracted with an audience, even close one, and we don’t want an accidental friend shot in the background!
